People Are Scamming Walmart With Bogus Cheap PS4 Listings

There's nothing like some good ol' fashioned corporation scamming on the holidays. And as we inch closer to Black Friday, some particularly ambitious shoppers have convinced the mega-chain Walmart to sell them PlayStation 4s for as cheap as $50 thanks to a simple new price-matching scam.

Don't cry for Walmart, though. Cry for price-matching. "We're committed to providing low prices every day," reads the Walmart website. "On everything. So if you find a lower advertised price on an identical product, tell us and we'll match it. Right at the register."

They're probably going to tweak that policy soon. Last weekend, some lucky shoppers got their hands on $60 Wii U and 3DS bundles by asking Walmart to price-match what turned out to be a glitch on Sears' website. And now, more devious shoppers have come up with a different scam to get PS4s: fake Amazon listings.

It's a simple process. First, someone sets up a bogus third-party retail listing on Amazon that will claim to sell PS4s for super-cheap, like, say, $90:

"AmzonElectronics" is a nice touch. Though Amazon is quick to remove fake listings like that—and you'll never get that $90 PS4 from them—it's still simple to snag a screenshot and bring it to one of the big box stores.

And that's... pretty much it. Anyone can benefit from this scam simply by taking the Amazon listing to Walmart (or any other retailer that offers price-matching) and crossing their fingers.

While there's a chance that more savvy retail employees won't honor the deal, at least a few shoppers have successfully pulled this one off:

Isn't human ingenuity such a wonderful thing? Too bad this blatant fraud will likely force companies like Walmart to change their price-matching plans to be worse for everyone. Sorry, guys!

Rather than going for an Amazon deal, Walmart wants you to nab that PlayStation 4 in its stores this holiday season. The world's largest retailer will start offering price matching for Amazon and other online stores starting tomorrow. That's actually something around half of Walmart stores are already doing, but now it's official policy for all 4,300-plus locations across the US. It follows on the heels of other aggressive moves from the company for the all-important holiday shopping season, including last year's plan to match competitors' Black Friday prices a week early. Online shopping is an undying threat for Walmart and other brick and mortar retailers, so an official online matching policy makes sense. If anything, we wonder what took Walmart so long to make it happen nationwide.

On Tuesday, AMD announced new prices for its A-Series of APUs, including the A10-7850K, A10-7800, A10-7700K, A8-7600 and A6-7400K. The company has also thrown in a game code for Murdered: Soul Suspect, THIEF or Sniper Elite 3 for Windows PC with the purchase of one of five A10 APUs. 

For starters, here are the new prices for five A-Series APUs:



As for the game code, AMD revealed that this promotion will last until the end of October, and it will only apply to five A-Series APUS: the A10-7850K, A10-7800, A10-7700K, A10-6800K and A10-6790K. The key code will be placed inside the processor's box and allow the customer to choose one of the three games for Windows PC. Customers can also use the code to purchase Corel Aftershot Pro 2 for a mere $5, instead.

Finally, AMD provided pricing for the previous generation of APUs:
A10-6800K - $112
A8-6600K - $92
A4-6300 - $34
A4-5300 - $31
A4-4000 - $27

The company also suggests that AMD customers install the AMD Gaming Evolved software so that they can receive notifications for when new drivers are available. The app can also be used to tweak PC games for optimal performance and visuals, and used to earn points that can be redeemed for competition entries, hardware and games.

Though the "official" release has not been made by AMD, it didn't stop the pricing and preorders from pop up on shopblt.com.

AMD is hoping the upcoming FX "Vishera" second-generation Bulldozer multi-core CPUs are the success that many users hoped for with the original Bulldozer. With Steamroller looming around the corner, the FX "Vishera" CPUs are expected to release in October in four models.

The pricing listed by BLT (if accurate) has the flagship FX-8350 coming in at $253.00.

Based on the specs revealed in late August, FX-8350 is listed with a 4.00 GHz clock speed (4.20 GHz TurboCore speed), eight-cores, 16 MB of total cache and TDP of 125W.

The FX-8320 features 3.50 GHz clock speed, eight-cores, 16 MB of total cache and TDP of 125W.

 The FX-8320 is priced at $242.05.

None of the FX processors are expected to support integrated GPU, but will support a full list of "Piledriver" features, such as AMD Perfect Picture HD, AMD Steady Video 2.0 Technology and AMD Wireless Display.
