MLG continues eSports at X Games with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament
Competitive gaming will continue to be a part of the X Games next year with a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament at X Games Aspen 2015, Major League Gaming announced today.
The MLG X Games Aspen Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Invitational, as the competition is called, will be the first CS: GO tournament run by MLG. The three-day event will run from Jan. 23-25, 2015, at X Games Aspen, which is held in Aspen, Colorado. It will feature the top eight CS: GO teams from North America and Europe; online qualifiers prior to the tournament will determine the squads who play in it.
X Games Aspen 2015 will feature winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. The Aspen CS: GO competition follows the debut of eSports at the X Games this past June with the inaugural MLG X Games Invitational at X Games Austin in Austin, Texas. That tournament was for Call of Duty: Ghosts.
"Our X Games debut was such a success we knew we had to continue the tradition. The MLG X Games Aspen Invitational will further elevate eSports placing our top competitors amongst the best winter athletes in the world and continues to solidify MLG.tv as the leading destination for premium eSports programming," said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO and co-founder of MLG, in a press release today.
Fans interested in catching the CS: GO action in person can buy a $100 premium pass for the weekend, which includes reserved seating, a behind-the-scenes tour, a gift bag and more. The tournament will be broadcast exclusively on the MLG.tv streaming network, with highlights shown during X Games telecasts on ESPN and ABC.
