HBO Go's release on Xbox One appears imminent

HBO Go's release on Xbox One appears imminent

It appears that HBO Go is about to be released on Xbox One, according to a tile on the Xbox 360 dashboard.

Following a report on Twitter, Polygon loaded up an Xbox 360 and confirmed that the apps tab of the console's dashboard currently displays a tile bearing the HBO Go logo and the phrase "Now on Xbox One" (see screenshot above). However, that's not the case at this time — we searched "HBO" in the Xbox Store on Xbox One and got no results.

HBO representatives have repeatedly said that the HBO Go app is still coming to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2014. Images of the app leaked last month, purportedly of a beta of the Xbox One version. We've reached out to HBO and Microsoft for comment, and will update this article with any information we receive.

HBO Go was released on PlayStation 3 this past March, and has been available on Xbox 360 since March 2012. HBO announced plans last month to make its programming available via internet-based streaming, without a cable television subscription, in 2015.

Here's the official ad for HBO Go on Xbox One, which says the app is live today. It still isn't available.

A Microsoft representative told Polygon that the HBO Go app is still on its way to Xbox One, and as for a specific release date, the spokesperson said, "While we do not have anything to announce at this time, we look forward to sharing more details soon."

Regarding the tile on the Xbox 360 dashboard that said the app was "now on Xbox One," the Microsoft rep called it a "minor programming error" and said "it has since been removed." We've asked about the video ad below, and will update this article with any information we receive.

Microsoft has set the YouTube video to private as of 1:47 p.m. ET, so it's no longer viewable.
