Classic Star Wars X-Wing and TIE Fighter games are getting digital rereleases


Star Wars: X-Wing and its sequel, Star Wars: TIE Fighter, will get special edition digital releases through GOG.com, according to announcements uncovered by members of the GOG forums. This is the first time the two classic LucasArts space combat sims, which first hit DOS computers in the early '90s, will be available via digital distribution.

The discovery led GOG.com to post an official announcement a little early; the service has been teasing a new publishing deal that would be announced on Tuesday. Both X-Wingand TIE Fighter are coming to the digital distribution service as part of a new partnership that Disney that will lead to some 30 games being released via GOG.com without DRM protection.

Star Wars: X-Wing Special Edition will include the Star Wars: X-Wing Collector's CD-ROM and both Tour of Duty expansions: Imperial Pursuit and B-Wing. The Special Edition release of Star Wars: TIE Fighter will include the Defender of the Empireexpansion, both in the 1994 and 1998 versions, GOG.com says.

X-Wing and TIE Fighter will cost $9.99 each.

Other LucasArts games that are part of the Disney and GOG.com partnership include Sam & Max Hit the Road, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
